GAMO Pellets are a type of non-spherical projectile specifically designed to be fired from air guns. Unlike bullets or shots used in traditional firearms, GAMO Pellets are engineered to function under relatively low pressure conditions. Airguns typically operate at pressures as low as 50 atmospheres, compared to firearms that operate at thousands of atmospheres. The unique design of these pellets allows them to be slightly undersized, enabling them to expand or “obturate” when fired, effectively sealing the bore and engaging the rifling for optimal stability and accuracy.

In contrast, firearms utilize slightly oversized bullets that rely on higher pressures to create a tight seal within the bore. GAMO Pellets can be used in both rifled and smoothbore barrels. When used in smoothbore barrels, they are designed to maintain inherent stability, similar to the Foster slugs used in smoothbore shotguns, ensuring consistent accuracy and performance even in less-than-ideal conditions.
